Jessica Hughes is Senior Lecturer in Classical Studies at The Open University. Her research specialisms include votive offerings, classical reception, and the changing religious landscape of Campania, Southern Italy. She is editor of the Open Access Journal Practitioners’ Voices in Classical Reception Studies, and she co-produces The Votives Project website and network with Emma-Jayne Graham. She also collaborates with Crispin Paine on the project Gods’ Collections.

Jessica’s publications include Votive Body Parts in Greek and Roman Religion (Cambridge University Press, 2017), Sensual Religion: Religion and the Five Senses (Equinox 2018, co-edited with Graham Harvey), and Remembering Parthenope: Receptions of Classical Naples from Antiquity to the Present (Oxford University Press, 2015, co-edited with Claudio Buongiovanni). She is currently working on a new monograph provisionally entitled Religion and Memory in the Valley of Pompeii, about the nineteenth-century Catholic sanctuary in the modern town of Pompeii and its evolving relationship with the nearby ancient Roman excavations.
